Last night my boyfriend and I were at Red Top having nasty, not at all good for you cheeseburgers, and this older couple comes in. Well, they were brother and sister, the man says he has to go to the bathroom and walks away in that direction..

My boyfriend was the only one who heard his collapse.

He ran over and I followed behind him. No one else so much as moved, and I think that shocked me the most in this whole event.

So we get over there and my boyfriend rolls him over and takes his glass off of his face. Well, out of his face. When he landed they went into the bridge of his nose and he was bleeding a lot. He immediately backed off and let me take over since I’m a lifeguard. I did what I know I’m supposed to do - an assessment, tried to wake him up, took his pulse and checked for breathing.. he was barely breathing but he was gasping at least, and he had a pulse. I checked his airway, positioned his head and took out his dentures. All the while my boyfriend and I have to tell the manager, yes, call 911..

God.

Right when he lost his pulse EMT’s got there, so thankfully I didn’t have to do CPR, but the man died for eight minutes. He went into cardiac arrest and the EMT’s did four rounds of CPR and shocked him three times with an AED. They finally got his pulse back but he was definitely gone for a while..

And the whole time his sister is talking to my boyfriend and the police telling them how her brother brought her here because she isn’t from town and he just wanted her to have these delicious burgers.

How terrible..
How sad..

The whole thing has me so shaken and like.. really looking at mortality for the first time. My own mortality.

I dreamed about him last night.
And I don’t even know his name so I won’t even be able to find out if he lived through it.
